Circle & ellipse crop

Cut a photo into a perfect circle or ellipse with a transparent background.

Crop any photo into a circle or an ellipse — ideal for profile pictures, avatars, team pages, and logos. The area outside the shape becomes transparent, so the cutout drops cleanly onto any background.

The shape, size, and position are fully adjustable, and the preview shows exactly what the exported image will look like. Processing runs locally in your browser; your photo never leaves your device.

JPG · PNG · WebP in · PNG / WebP out with transparency · up to 50 MB

How it works

  1. Add an image. Drop, paste, or choose a JPG, PNG, or WebP file up to 50 MB.
  2. Shape the cutout. Choose circle or ellipse, then drag to position and resize the shape over the part of the photo you want to keep.
  3. Download the cutout. Export as PNG or WebP with a transparent background outside the shape.

Frequently asked questions

Is my photo uploaded when I circle-crop it?

No. Everything runs locally in your browser using the Canvas and File APIs. Your files are never uploaded to a server, and nothing is stored after you close the page.

Does the background outside the circle stay transparent?

Yes. The exported PNG or WebP keeps full transparency outside the shape, so you can place the cutout on any background.

Can I crop an ellipse instead of a perfect circle?

Yes. You can switch between a locked circle and a freely stretched ellipse, and adjust both axes independently.

What is circle crop useful for?

Profile pictures and avatars, team and about pages, circular logos, badges, and any layout that expects a round image.

Why can't I export a circle crop as JPG?

JPG does not support transparency, so the tool exports PNG or WebP to preserve the transparent area outside the shape.
